Wine Description
Previously known as "Les Joncs" prior to the 2004 vintage. This 2004 Montagny has a very clear pale yellow color. It's rather expressive with a pretty fresh-flower nose. Freshness and vivacity are fitting terms for this very promising wine followed by intense and lingering finish. 100% Chardonnay.
The village of Montagny is the most southerly on the Côte Chalonnaise, on the Mâconnais border. The size of the appellation is around 495 acres for Montagny village and Premier Cru. The tiny, artisan village of Montagny-les-Buxy seems to be one of the sleepiest of Burgundy, according to Robert M. Parker, Jr., but the best wines "have a delicious buttery, nutty, apple-like Chardonnay fruitiness, crisp acidity..."
